It leaned on a tree
And beckoned
Climb!
But I am not a child, I said aloud
To nobody in particular.
Still, as I sat on a nearby bench
It said, “Come on, scaredy-pants!”
Climb!
I pulled up the hood of my purple sweatshirt
And did as the ladder asked!
If only in my mind.
(I find I am not the risk-taker I once was, after all!)
