Remember this one?* – The Black Book of Hollywood Beauty Secrets

Now, you may ask yourself what in the WORLD was I thinking when I picked up this book? Fair question. Here’s the answer: This might be fun!

See, every once in a while I actually care about how I look… not all the time… which makes me the Queen of understatement… er, at least, when it comes to my beauty routine. Routine? That denotes a habit, or at least something one does at the same time every day, week, or month. Me? I wear very little to no makeup and years ago, let my hair turn gray against the opinion of many… and long before it was all the rage to go silver. My anxiety takes care of my fingernails (i.e. chomped to the nub, usually) and, oh yeah, I’m fat. Not that that matters. There are plenty of beautiful large people. But, still…

However, I love baths. LoVe ThEm! ❤ Okay, so it’s less about beauty and more about comfort… but… a bath fizzie-thingy that smells like roses, ginger, mint or oranges? Oh, I’m SO all over that. I also enjoy lotions and potions and natural stuff that subs for high-end stuff… an occasional massage, hair mask and/or facial… and variety is the spice of life when it comes to what I’ll try. This is where this book shines! It’s got positively EVERYTHING you could ever want in a beauty book!

The Black Book of Hollywood Beauty Secrets by Kym Douglas and Cindy Pearlman is filled with great ideas from the beautiful people of Hollywood.

Kym Douglas, an image consultant and host, and Cindy Pearlman, a celebrity journalist and nationally syndicated writer, collaborate on this informative, lively, quick and funny book that you can carry in your purse or leave on the bedside table to read when the mood moves you. It’s the kind of book that can be read all at once… but get a pen and paper, you’ll want to take notes.

From the highest-end cosmetic recommendations to recipes for yogurt, egg white or oatmeal facials at home, this book has something for everyone.

In between the recipes and recommendations, there are sometimes-serious, often-funny stories about women we think we know… a whole whack of ’em, actually, like Jennifer AnistonCatherine Zeta-Jones and Lisa Rinna, who offers the weirdest beauty product she’s ever tried… and let’s just say it had “male” foreskin in it. (Is there any other kind?) Anyway. yeah, you read that right. Ewww and OUCH! While we’re on XXX subjects, the best shaving cream? KY Jelly! Yes, as in the personal lubricant. Don’t ask me. I just report what’s in the book. Ha!

There are also special sections like, “Overheard on the Red Carpet” and “Stripper Beauty Secrets”… and so, so, so much more. This book is chock full of funny stories, great advice and information!

Wanna know what I took away from it more than anything else? Here you go: SLEEP is the most important beauty product you can use. It’s cheap, it’s relaxing and definitely necessary! And wouldn’t you know, sleep is also oh-so-necessary for mental health, too! Win/win, people!
