Vive Le Color! – Mixed Media

Here’s what happens when you buy your books at a discount.

You may get a coloring book called Vive Le Color! Peace WITHOUT the (normally included) colored pencils.

Do I care?

NOOOOOOOOOOO! LOL

I got the book for… wait for it… $2!! Brand new and ready for me to color in it!

Luckily, I have more than enough supplies at home. Most of us do!

So, keep your eyes peeled for bargains like this! I am very, very blessed in that there’s an entire bargain bookstore in our city. And in the back… a scratch and dent section that’s the main supplier of the books I review here! For a very short while, after a refurb, they didn’t have the section and I died a little. The prices on the other books are discounted and I’ve found some fab books… but the scratch and dent? $1 -$3!!!!! Right? I can’t believe it either!

Ahem. Anyway.

This afternoon, while my husband napped, I came to my sitting room – ah, bliss, I freaking LOVE this room – and thumbed through the pages. I thought I’d like to color something but wasn’t feeling the geometric and mandala shapes, although they were beautiful. I saw a couple of stylized birds that looked nice… but just then…

I found a tree!! You KNOW how I feel about trees!!!

So, I pulled out my pencils and got to work. I quickly realized that the little stuff on the page is minuscule (!!!) and there was no way I’d be getting a colored pencil – no matter how sharp – into those spaces. I could barely see them! Fer realz!

So, out came the ink. And the glitter ink. And the fluorescent ink. Super sharp tips and I could just dot them into the dots. Viola!

Woo Hoo… we’re cookin’ with gas!

And then…

I found out pretty pronto that the ink wasn’t gonna dry in ANY hurry. So, I switched gears… got all the inking done and then most of the trunk with a crayon pencil. But stayed away from the ink, so it’s nowhere near done. Plus, I have all those leaves. It’s gonna be gorgeous!

So, I’m done for today.

I’ll wait for the ink to dry – I suspect it will take a day – and then come back with more pencil and crayon to finish it up!

No, it’s not high art but it sure did relax me and made me smile. Always a good thing!

Here we are… so far…

And of COURSE, when I’m all finished, I will add it to my “clothesline” with lights… which is kinda a vision board and kinda not.

Sheryl don’t follow rulz!

And I’ll admire it, along with everything else up there… until January 1st… so I have some time!

*grin* <<< I love my wall.

But what I want to say to you MOST OF ALL is this…

It really IS the little things.

Everything else in my life is exactly the same as it was yesterday…

… and the day before. And the day before that.

And ya know, I’ve been kinda depressed and anxious lately. It’s the season. It’s the plateau on my weight loss. Maybe it’s the chemicals in my brain. Who knows?

Depression is a constant companion who stays in the shadows and then sneaks up behind you… BOO!

I’m surprised every time. Like it’s brand new.

Ugh!

I’m trying not to let it get to me… but it’s there. Just. There.

It’s made it difficult to get out of bed this week. Such a bitch like that.

But.

*breathe*

For most of this post, I’ve been sitting here typing with a goofy grin on my face. It’s back, just so ya know.

And it’s all because I found this neato coloring book and took the time to play in it.

So… maybe you could get one… you know… if you need something to lift you up.

With all that in mind, here’s my list for a late-summer, lazy, Saturday afternoon:

  • Coloring book
  • Colored pencils, crayons and ink – even paint, if ya want!
  • Fave music or table fountain – or, being very decadent – BOTH!!
  • Window open
  • Sunlight streaming in
  • Cat sleeping nearby
  • Water to drink – thanks, sweet hubby!
  • No expectations. Just go with your gut and enjoy the process.
